Scleromystax genus.

Post by Cory Ben »

Hi all. I'm after some information about the suitability of keeping a pair of scleromystax, probably barbatus or kronei in with other south American cats, mostly Corydoras and either some sort of ancistrus or whiptail. The tank will by 2ft by 2ft about 150l or so. I've tried to read the cotm article but it appears to of been taken down, it's not working for me anyway. Any help and advice on the species would be much appreciated.

Cheers, Ben.

Ben,

You should not have any problem keeping a pair of barbatus or Kronei with the Cory's and ancistrus. Your tank is large enough. The only caveat I can think of is temperature. Scleromystax like it cool, happy in low 70's. You would need to find ancistrus or whiptails that can tolerate the cool temps.

Thanks for your reply Mark.

What is the minimum tank size for a pair of these? I have another tank which is 2ft and about 60l which would be available. I cant remember the exact dimensions. I may not keep them in the larger tank as I was planning on it running at 24/25C.

Cheers, Ben.

Ben,

A pair would be fine in a 2ft tank. Good luck.

Ideal. I'll plan to get a pair once I've sorted my new tank out. Thanks for your replies.
