L184/L107 disease?

Post by Lihn »

Dear All,

Yesterday I received a breeding group of L184/L107 (3 males and 7 females).
Unfortunately when I came home I saw some signs of a possible disease.
Below I have taken a few pictures of one of the males which have some signs of (maybe) some bacterial infections/fungus on the back of its body.
In addition to this the stools of the fishes is pretty weird: It looks like they empty there intestines completely? (Some white stuff comes out with the normal stools).

Please help me - how should I treat this?

I see no sign of disease. The white stuff you see on the back half looks like the typical irritation or abrasion you will see when they fight with each other, or try to mate. The stool is normal.

Thank you for your reply Andrew.
Actually one of the fishes died yesterday when I received them from seller. The fish died because of a treatment with Faunamor (against bacterial infections) which I gave the group because the fish which died was very emaciated. The fish unfortunately died because it already was very weakened.
I think that the fishes have a kind of internal infection or worm? But probably it is normal? The seller told me that the fishes have had this kind of stool in a long time..

Please.. Does anyone else have a comment on my problem?
My fishes do still have the signs.. The stools is mysterious for me based on my experiences with plecos.
Can I do anything?

Jacob

Hello Jacob, how are your L184 doing? Are they healthy now?

Greetings, Walter

Hi Walter,

They are actually doing pretty good. Since I posted this on forum they have spawned several times (many of the spawns was not fertilized - probably because I use tap water for them currently. I will change to rain water later) and now I have approx. 15-25 fry in a tank together with young L134 :d

Hi, you have fry already, good job.

What is your tank size, ph and temperature when they breed?
What size are your L184, and what size is your breeding cave?

Thank you Walter :-)

The fishes are probably around 5 years old. I bought them from a good friend of mine who stopped keeping catfishes. He got around 100 fry in a year (they started breeding about one year before I bought them from him).

The tank is 128 litre and the temperature are around 28 degrees Celsius. As already told I use tap water which is quite hard with a pH around 7-7,5 here in Denmark.
I am looking pretty much forward to see if a combination of rain water and oak leaves will give the hatching a bigger success (the males throws out the eggs before they hatch - I think it is because of the hard water. Therefore do I hatch the eggs artificially which is not a good success every time).

Jacob
