Acanthicus Hystrix (?)

Post by tagamasid1023 »

My 7-year old daughter snapped this photo at the Shedd Aquarium during one of their class field trips. She describes this mean-looking fish to be over two feet long.

Morning,

this looks like an adult Acanthicus adonis to me. They loose the white spots that juveniles have.

A. hystrix is impossible to ID by the way because nobody knows where the holotype really came from. We know several similar black forms of different rivers that differ in smaller characteristics.
