This is another synodontis which is reminisant of quite a few species my best guess is Synodontis bastiani.

If you want a list of possibles i would be happy to list however you will have troble tracking down reliable pictures.

Synodontis bastiani is a more slender fish, as in this post.

Mainly interested in a ballpark guess for adult size, temperment, and water conditions. it seems quite happy in my tank, but I just wonder about how big it will end up.

If it is indeed S. caudovittatus, max size is about 12". Water conditions would be as for S. eupterus.

I'm not all that sure it's S. caudovittatus. Might even be a young S. schall, in which case, there's more info about this fish in the Cat-eLog.
I'm almost certain it's a Nilo-Sudanian species, though, as it shows the dark caudal fin stripes of many such species.

I've had juvenile schall years ago, and they're without spots.....quite easy to pick them from a shipment of juvie-nigrita's wich I did.

and they have very light colored whiskers, lighter than their body-color in any case.

The color of juvenile schall is much darker, almost chocolate-brown, but I admit, in a LFS tank with no substrate, wood or plants they'll likely be pale too.

 you can do the "schall-test" :D
It's a BAD MoFo fish. Just add another Syno.
If this one beats the crap out of it, it's definitely "schall-related"
Plan B should not automatically be twice as much explosives as Plan A

I am 100% sure it is not S. macrops. Have you seen a picture of the real macrops? It does not look anything like the fish in the picture. Smaller adipose fin. Larger eyes. No spots.
The pic in the Cat-eLog that used to be S. macrops is now S. frontosus. That might be a possibility, but S. frontosus lacks the dark caudal-fin bands.

my experience and references led me to belive, Macrops looks exactly like schall except the colouration is lighter. I know about the large eyes however the fish pictured is still a juvenile.

There is a picture of one of the types in Poll. Since I am on the wrong side of the Pacific Ocean at the moment, I will post the pic when I return to the US 6 January.

Wow did time pass since I first posted this guy.

Well he's pushing 7 inches now, and keeps growing, though his pattern has changed a bit, thought I'd update. He's also way more outgoing now with bigger fish for tankmates.
