I would agree that it doesn't look like A. claro. Unfortunately, brown with light spots is a very commmon pattern, so without further information, it's hard to say for sure. A. claro has a pretty distinctive shape of their mouth (more oval - broader than it is "long", where MOST Ancistrus species have a fairly round or square shape mouth).

I've just had some mail contact with OP (for some reason if you search for A. Claro on any dutch forum you tend to notice my name. b-) ). Seems the bigger fish also has spots on it's belly. My claros are silvery on their bellies. Now I know that colour doesn't say much with ancistrus but in this case it might be a clue.

yes jeroen i notice that you are famous in Holland ;). Before i first contacted you i already noticed that you and your little friends are everywhere.

you are right about the belly, this Claro on my picture has spots on her belly, my other young Claro has also a silvery belly as yours.

is this the conclusion dat this issen't a A. Claro.
if I have the opportunity I will try to make a photo.

good night to you, Walter

I'm not that sure a photo of the mouth will be much help - unless you find it hard to tell if it's "oval" or "round", that is.
