Sexing Ogliancistrus sp (L020)
Picked up the last two from a LFS, and only took the three images below before letting them free into the tank.
Are these good enough to determine sex? Thanks

Re: Sexing Ogliancistrus sp (L020)
Hey Martin
Not sure about sex. But the lighter one (on left) definetly looks like a L354 to me. Don't recognize the other one since it is very dark, but no L354.
So I'm quite sure you have two different plecos there.
Cheers Simon

Re: Sexing Ogliancistrus sp (L020)
Hi Simon
Thanks, was thinking it was just stress colouring as they were both charcoal base with grey-white dots in the LFS...I haven't seen both of them together since but one of them was out last night and I noted a relatively spiny pectoral ray, so thinking one of them could be a male! I also noted the trailing edge to the caudal fin was the same colour as the spots, so will have to go back and review L020 and your suggestion.
Will try and get more pictures, but thanks
Martin

Re: Sexing Ogliancistrus sp (L020)
I've just reviewed the two fish, mine are both definitely L020 as the markings on these seem to be regular circles with the light margin to the caudal fin whereas with L354 it has more irregular shaped markings with only light tips to the caudal fin. I'll try and get more photos soon.
Thanks again

Hey,
The L20 I've seen so far were more spotted, but smaller spots and darker. Here some pictures from my L354's.
Cheers Simon

Thanks. Nice looking fish!
Mine do have the coloured trailing edge to that caudal fin which I can't see on your fish?
I'll have to find mine now!

Re: Sexing Ogliancistrus sp (L020)
Look at picture 3 on the L020 profile, the top fish of the two has a coloured trailing edge to the caudal fin. One of mine definitely has the same.
Hope that helps.

Re: Sexing Ogliancistrus sp (L020)
Ah now I got it
Well at least I haven't seen that on my L354. But to be honest also didn't see that so far on the L20 I've seen.
But of both you don't get to see so many, since the import rate is quite low.
Maybe others have experience to share here?
Cheers Simon

Re: Sexing Ogliancistrus sp (L020)
Sadly found one of the two dead today (the lighter one of the two).
I can see the darker one, but its part hidden though I can see the light border to the caudal fin.

Hey Martin
I'd say L20, but not sure. L354 isn't so dark.

Re: Sexing Ogliancistrus sp (L020)
OK, thanks - I was thinking more L354 based on the markings, but it's good that you think I got it right in the first placeSimon86 wrote:Hey Martin

Don't tell me that! I lost the lighter one after only a few days! And these were the last two!OlePaulsen wrote:looks like a pair. the darker one is male in my opinion.
