leaking eheim professional 3 2075
Hi All,
Hope you can help with a frustrating problem thats really got me scratching my head.
I have the above filter (less than 2 yrs old, though where I put the receipt is yet another mystery).
When the filter is started a trickle of water runs from just under the ceiling clip at the back. I have filled the canister without a lid on...no leak, so no cracks on the canister.
I have greased the inlet and outlet fittings and checked that the sealng rings are in tact.
I have tried running the filter without the baskets in, to make sure the baskets are not dislodging the head some how.
I have made sure the seal around the head is in tach and seated correctly.
Finally I have used the same vaseline to run around the head/canister joint.
I just cannot seem to stop this trickle
I must have missed something obvious....any ideas??

Have a look at the clip itself. If it's (even slightly) damaged, it's grip is no longer 100% and that may cause the leaking. I'm refering to the inner "teeth" of the clip (which attach the clip to the cannister).
Hope this makes sense and helps.

I can't remember which model but there is a known problem where the internal seals shrink and leak - call John Allen in the UK and you'll need to send the head back but they'll replace it.

The gasket between the motor and the canister needs to be replaced. The gasket may be old and hard and this is the cause of the leak. A new gasket may solve this problem.

I'm having the same issue with my 2076 Pro 3e. It leaks from the power cord connector. There is a FAQ about this on the Eheim site. I love their filters, but their tech support is nearly impossible to contact and their website is terrible, especially the parts website! If you get this resolved, please let me know the solution. I'll do the same.
I haven't met too many plecos I didn't like...

Re: leaking eheim professional 3 2075
My 2028 sprung a leak in 2 different places. Main gasket between the head and the canister the first time and the second time was a hairline crack in the adapter. That was at years 4 and 5 respectively. Haven't had a problem since I replaced them. Have 2 year old 2078 and 1 year old 2075 and so far no problems. Replace the main seal. Mine looked fine, but apparently was worn thin enough that it wasn't sealing the head properly.

Re: leaking eheim professional 3 2075
I bought the Pro 3 2075 brand new in Sept 2012 that came with a 3 year warranty. The filter leaked after 2 years destroying my $350 wooden stand. Water leaked out near the power cord. After searching the net I found out that this was a common issue among Pro 3 filters made before Aug 2010. There have also been countless reports of Eheim's Customer Support department ignoring customer emails when contacted for warranty claims.
I emailed them and immediately the next day I received a reply asking for the Serial number, the shipping address and the retail store from which I bought the filter. I replied with the information and that was the last I heard from them. I have sent them 4 more emails since then and they completely ignored them. It has been one month and I have been another victim of their scam.
Apparently Eheim is engaging in fraudulent acitivities, marketing their filters as "Premium" products that come with a 3 year warranty. However, they will try their best NOT to honor the warranty. Maybe I need to call them everyday and write nasty letters to get them to acknowledge my issue. I know some of their victims have received a replacement head unit this way after sending threatening emails and making repeated phone calls. However, it shouldn't have to be this difficult.
I have another Pro 2 filter that also leaked after 6 years of operation. From what I have heard, the company was bought and the quality of customer service has become horrible since then. It is now reaching the point of fraud.
I will never buy another Eheim product again. Beware!!!

Hello there,
I am really sorry to hear you are having so many problems with eheim on that side of the pond.
After contacting John Allen in the UK, I simply had to send the filter head to them and they sent a brand new replacement the same week, no fuss, no bother.

For the record, I've used Eheim products for 25 years, I've have one powerhead running at the moment that has been running since 1991. I have had (twice) to return products to them over the years and this was handled easily. At present I run five big thermofilters and some smaller canisters. They're simply brilliant IME.
I'm guessing with a username of "Eheimsucks" (which is probably what you want in a filter ) that you're maybe not that interested in contributing to the site outside of that issue. I'm sure you're annoyed at the experience you're having but I hope you don't mind some advice on using words like "fraud" or "scam" in particular. That opens you up for libel if you're not careful.
Meantime, you might want to call the store you bought the Eheim from and ask them for the number they have for Eheim? Apologies if you've already tried this.
I totally do agree it's an important role of forums to allow people to express opinion about their experiences; on subjects like this, it's best to be clear on what is fact and what is opinion. Others will make up their own mind - reviewing experiences (borne our of research by tripadvisor) is that people are increasingly likely to discard very strong opinions for and against something and read more into the pluses and minuses documented by serial reviewers.
I really hope you get to sort out your problem with your Ehiem.
