Ancistrus aguaboensis ?
I recently got these Ancistrus which came in as aguaboensis. Any idea if that's what this fish actually is?
Also in this shipment was a contaminant. Any ideas as to species?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Ancistrus aguaboensis ?
Here's what i got as A.aguaboensis. They seem to be A.minutus. I'm awaiting feedback from the person who did the scientific description to get a correct ID.

These came from the Araguaia River. Not sure if L180 hails from there.Andreass1989 wrote:hi there. the 2 first pictures looks like L-180

Re: Ancistrus aguaboensis ?
There's some debating going on in a few threads on Facebook atm regarding the ID of the fish imported/exported under the moniker "Ancistrus aguaboensis". Apparently, the true identity of A.aguaboensis is vague to say the least, as there appear to be no proper picture material available for comparison. The original picture of L32 by Stawikowski, which is claimed to be aguaboensis, may be a female L180 according to some people.
A few similar yet different forms reach the trade under the aguaboensis/L32 name. According to the description, aguaboensis and minutus are sister species from the same area (Tocantins/Araguaia). They are both quite flat in their shape, and both have numerous small light spots. I'm curious to learn how to separate them, so I will respond here as soon as I get the feedback from the author

Looks like the exporter didn't send what I ordered. I count two "aguaboensis". The rest look like this:
I'll get a better pic as I'd like to get an identification on this fish.
At least it looks like he got the Medusa and L075 right.

Re: Ancistrus aguaboensis ?
First, when Brazil made the new permitted list of species for export they more or less excluded all Ancistrus species except a few ones, of these 4 species is easy to distinct (L34, L059, L183 and L255) and the rest is brown species looking similar... total 7 species (3 brown ones) of Ancistrus is allowed for export?????? From Tocantins area at least 5 species that often is mixed arrive the market, of these 1 are L180 (monkiecat), 1 A. minutes (Haakon) that does have the most flat body of all known Ancistrus which also fit the description of this specie, franksaquarium shows L180 + a fourth specie (have no idea if described or not), the fift has a reticulated pattern as L159 (thought to be from Xingu but probably this is a Tocantins/Araguaia specie since I never seen anything similar from Xingu).

Re: Ancistrus aguaboensis ?
Do you mean the ones imported as agaboensis are L180?Janne wrote:franksaquarium shows L180
Which pic are you referring to?+ a fourth specie (have no idea if described or not)
So my unknown is probably L159. Pics seem to match.the fifth has a reticulated pattern as L159 (thought to be from Xingu but probably this is a Tocantins/Araguaia specie since I never seen anything similar from Xingu).
Thanks for the information.

Re: Ancistrus aguaboensis ?
Not really, it can be L032 or L180 because the supplier of this fish have no idea and there are no 100% information of collecting locality, they can look very similar.Do you mean the ones imported as agaboensis are L180?
Not in any picture posted her.Which pic are you referring to?
No, more likely L156.So my unknown is probably L159. Pics seem to match.
