Looking for the best type of pleco for algae

Post by This Old Spouse »

Hello all,

I have a 55g community tank that I've had up and running for about 3 years, and since putting in new and better lighting have developed an algae problem.

I started up a DIY CO2 system, but I'd like to get a pleco that will help me scour the glass and plants. Looking for suggestions, please!
55g: Tetra: 4 serpae; 1 vonRio; 9 bloodfin; 11 longfin black skirt; 1 silver tip; Corydoras: 4 delphax; 1 ambiacus; 8 aeneus (2 albino, 6 bronze); 1 flying fox | 20g: Corydoras: 2 paleatus; 2 schlermomystax barbatus; red cherry shrimp; 1 flying fox | 29g: 13 tiger barbs; 5 red eye tetra; 1 flying fox

Almost any species of bristlenose would do the job. They stay small, usually under 5", and are very easy to care for. I put 1 in every tank. Good luck.

Thanks. I did have a BN that I liked a lot, but my husband commandeered it for his discus tank. Guess it's time to get my own. /:)

I would say comandeer it back. Either that or go 1 up on him and get a nicer BN (fire red, green, calico long fin). Good luck.
