Spawning report Oligancistrus sp. L020

Post by OlePaulsen »

Just recently came back from a trip to Germany, and got a nice adult male (12-13cm) from my friend Sandor. I had a single adult female from before (10-11cm).
I put them into a 74 liter tank alone with a lot of rocks for hiding places and 3 caves, 2 with opening in the end and one with side opening. Filter with 800l/h, quite slow for catfish tank.
Just around one week after the male had picked his cave, the one with side opening.
The day after the female was inside and next day eggs.
Today i came home from the local aquarium club meeting and found around 10 small freshly hatched babies outside the cave :-O Two was damaged and died. One was still in the egg, and the 7-8left was still in good shape.
I put them into a breeding box with sand and airstone for circulation.
The male is still fanning on a big clutch inside the cave so i don't know how many its in there.(luckily)

The water was around 28-29degree, pH around 6,5-6,7 and conductivity is around 180.

Great! Congrats!

Its has been a good Oligancistrus month in scandinavia! ;-)

I have also a pair that I hope to breed but the female is still a bit small.

I think this is a first time breeding of this species as far as I know!
