2 questions
Hi all. Has anyone heard of a peckoltia sp "redfin"?. I purchased 2 of these from a local plec specialist and was told they were a new species. I cannot find any info on them but , as they are only about 1.5" atm, i dont know if they will be fully coloured yet. They look very much like L076, but the barring is not as pronounced. I cannot get any pics as yet, everytime i go near the tank they scoot off into there hideyholes(plenty of these. Also would my plecs feed on blanched Nori. I have 2x L168, 4xL201,4xL340 and the 2 L076??. Thanks for any info on this. Chris.

Re: 2 questions
You need to net it and snap some pics.

Re: 2 questions
Did you just get them? If so, I would wait around a week before chasing them around with a net. Let them settle in and destress a bit before netting them just to take pics for ID purposes. After all, is ID'ing them more important than their long-term health in your tank? I think not. On the other hand, if one of them was showing signs of disease and you needed help with the disease, then I would take the pic ASAP. Of course, if you've have them over a week, go ahead and net them for ID whenever you like.

Re: 2 questions
If they are from pier aquatics, I know the species you are talking about. They appear similar to L206, but could be a new species in their own right. Panaqolus need wood to chew on, which I am sure you know. Provide a variety of wood and supplement with plecoplanet wafers. They will eat more proteinaceous foods if offered, but don't overdo it. Also veggies including courgette, peas, French beans etc.
They appear to be a relatively small species, mine have grown to around 8cm TL.
There is a species also known as red fin which is the L397, which have been imported recently by rare aquatics. These are different to the type described above.
All types should be relatively straightforward to breed, males get very hairy, similar to Peckoltia.
Mark.

Re: 2 questions
Thanks for the replies. I have had them for over 2 weeks now. They were the last 2 that Pier had. I have kept and bred tropical fish for over 30 yrs, so i know about allowing them to settle in before disturbing them more by trolling round the tank with a couple of nets. I will try to get some pics of them in the tank if i can. I am going to make a small glass tank at work this week, so that i can get pics of them from all angles in the future. I have looked at the 397 and they are quite similar. Looks like i will have to wait a while before i can get a proper ID. I just wanted to make sure they were getting the correct care and feeding regime. Thanks all. Chris.
