Post by mcaquatic »

What are people using as hides and caves for there plecos? Currently I am using flower pot saucers for my L14. I plan on getting a group of 200 s and more L14 so wanted to see what others are using. Thanks

I use the different size pleco caves from www.plecocaves.com . I have also started making my own out of a cement like substance poured into a mold of earth :).. really like these and I can make them as big as I want. I am also in the works of making some natural wood caves similar to the plecocaves.com, but drilled out wood that I have.

I just posted instructions on how to make your own. They are working great for me so far. Here is the link - http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/view ... =2&t=37889 you can make 2 - 4 caves (depending on the species and size of plecs you keep) for about $18.

I have found that my Bristlenose prefer the smaller tighter fit cave opposed to the bigger caves.

most of mine are from www.southcentralcichlids.com imo they are made better than the pleco caves.com ones thicker and less likely to break.. plus the lady that makes them lives right down the street and brings them here so i dont have to pay shipping.. im also getting 2 of the pleco condo's that Xtremecichlids makes

I bought two from http://www.breedingcaves.com/ which is a small shop ran by an aquarist and pottery artist. Her small cave is the favorite hiding place of my male A. Claro. I also put a very nice open ended tube from another brand but that's been ignored ever since

Image

The one on the left near the back is the open ended tube. The other one has the entry visible between the treee roots on the right.
