My ? is. Why does the label read to soak for four hours with a solution containing one tablespoon of buffer /cup of water after the bleaching process is done an the dechlorinating. Just curious, thank you for your time.

I don't know, but my understanding is that the newer version of the instructions skips that step. You might ask Seachem at its forum.

You are just looking at a step they no longer consider needed. Be sure to continue to rinse thoroughly after recharging.

Now that you mention it, I looked at my bottle and it does say to use Prime, and for freshwater use:
Discus Buffer, Neutral Regulator, or Acid Buffer.
(It's my first bottle of Purigen.)

Perhaps, the ionic reaction of the chlorine in an acidic water makes it less toxic to fish, just as ammonia is 100 times less toxic to fish because of the ionic reaction in pH below 7.0?
If I am not online, I am doing a water change!
