Ctenoloricaria or Harttia?

Post by MatsP »

Looking at Harttia species in Cat-elog vs. Fishbase & CAS, it seems like the latter has as Harttia fowleri. Is there a reason it's different here vs. the other sites?

Pretty sure it's just never been updated to reflect Raph and others' research.

Hi,

No, it has been updated. Current status on the Catalog of Fishes is: Harttia fowleri (see the end of the previous copy-paste). For the taxonomy, the most reliable source remains the Catalog of Fishes...

Cheers
Raph.

I think what Jools meant was that WE haven't updated to follow the latest papers. Thanks Raph for confirming that there's no special reason why it's not in Harttia. I will move it.

You're right Mats, the original question asked why it was different here and I just responded in that context. If moving, it would be a good one to add the synonym as this is a sometimes used name (in quick find / searches etc).

I asked Marc recently to assist with adding some of the commonly encountered pleco synonyms but he's rather busy at present. I've done Zonancistrus, but there are a lot of Panaqolus that should have a Panaque synonym. I'll get around to that eventually!
