Fishing for Shovelnose
I saw this video on another forum & didn't recall seeing anything like this here before. I apologize if I'm reposting something that has already been posted. Pretty neat fishing on the Pantanal in Brazil for Tiger Shovelnose.

It's like ice fishing in a tropical swamp What is that? A thick mat of floating vegetation, a layer of mud, and then swimmable water below?? It cannot all be mud. But then why mud is not sinking? Held by roots of the buoyant plants? Hard to understand habitat.

I agree, Viktor. My first thought was it was just like ice fishing. In instances like these, I often wonder how they figured out this was a way to catch fish. It's odd, to be sure.

Right. This goes right back to my lack of understanding the habitat, which'd be step one in the process you are referring to.unblinded wrote:... I often wonder how they figured out this was a way to catch fish...
Maybe it has to do with the high and low water seasons.

Wow great way to fish .I have never tried ice fishing because of the cold but this looks doable .Around here we have willow mats along the edges of some of the islands .That just might work.
It looks like it is cool there because the fisher men are wearing long sleeves Is that the dry season down there?
