New catfish. ID please
This is a new catfish I bought, was among many hemiloricarias and rineloricarias, if you remember had asked for help in identifying a Rineloricaria which proved Rineloricaria sp Paraná and thought at first that this was a female of that species. After carefully observe large differences found above all in the mouth ... I would appreciate your help. Thank you all.

That was my first choice. Physically look a lot ... I could not find another that looks like my new catfish, although the photographic record is pretty poor loricariids missing images of many species ...
Thank you all.

This is only slightly off topic. Does anyone have the etymology for the species name of this fish? I hadn't came across this one, and honestly thought it to be a crudely humorous typo before clicking the link. I have to know why they named this fish that!!!
I'm trying to steer clear of the one-liners till I know, but at 18 inches SL, I'm hoping this isn't a candiru-esque association. I'd die laughing before I finished reading the response.

Impossible only means that somebody hasn't done it correctly yet.

It's latin for ring, and am guessing that's in allusion to the eye. There's a genus review paper from 2000, which I don't have, that might answer the question authoritatively.pleco_breeder wrote:Does anyone have the etymology for the species name of this fish?
