fish nr 1 is about 22-23cm and fish nr 2 is about 18-19cm

I'm not an expert, but the big one may be a well fed male. My big male seems to have a more pointed head, but it could be camera angle. The smaller one looks female to me as well.

I will post some more picrures later tonigth. Close up on the head and from the side. But my guess is the same as yours ajour the biggest is male and the smaller one female

Based on the picture, both seem to be of the same sex. Fish number 2 seems like a smaller version of fish number 1 with no very clear difference in head shape, body shape, and orange colouration. Most females have less striking orange colouration than males and start to show wider bodies at around 12cm, of course it also depends if they are well nourished. Nevertheless, both of your fish are very beautiful male specimens in my opinion.

I'm not very experienced with Leporacanthicus, have only ever spawned L264, but am going to agree a pair for a completely different reason than already posted.

It's not commonly mentioned, and I don't know why, but ventral fin shape is a relatively good indicator of sex across several genera. The upper fish in the pic displays definitive male characteristics there. If you look at the posterior edge of the fins, there is an obvious triangular shape with the center longer than either edge. Inversely, this is absent in the smaller fish. The center rays are approximately the same size with no elongation and forming a slightly convex line.

There are a few fish which I can only sex by using this method because I'm unable to discern some of the head shape differences often cited. With Pseudolithoxus this seems to be the only dimorphism I can find.

Bringing up an old thread...

I first thought this fish was a male, but its getting quite plump - maybe a young female?
I tried to get a pic with the central fins - after Larry's description, am I seeing that this is a male after all?
