tank setup for L014

hi guys, i'm fairly new to keeping exotic pl*cos.. so far have only kept the ordinary ones as well as gibbys..

well, i'm planning to buy a sunshine pl*co L014 and put it with my polleni cichlid.. the tank setup is mostly rocks w/out a driftwood.. do you guys think this would be ok? is driftwood a must for an L014?

I've never seen mine on the driftwood but hey, it looks good in the tank so put it in anyway!

i actually would rather not put any driftwood anymore.. but i don't know if this would affect the pl*co's health in general.. cuz i've heard that ordinary pl*cos need it to chew on the driftwood and get some nutrients.. do both the zebra pl*co & sunshine pl*co need this aswell? as they are more carnivorous than the ordinary ones?

Zebras are carnivourous. My Goldie stays on the driftwood, but I think it is more for hiding. I am pretty sure that Goldys and Zebras come from the same area. The water is fast flowing and has little plant life. It is full of rocks, little driftwood I believe.

yeah, both from Rio Xingu, as for collection areas, I dunno if they're similar or even the same types, but it's not real important, decent filtration, 10 to 12 times an hour turnover rate and they'll be happy. as to wood, I don't think it really matters, the scobinancistrus certainly don't have the teeth for a wood-rasper. but they do like some veggies, so...

I believe the reason for the bogwood is that the lignin in the wood aids digestion and
nothing else.

(lignin)...Formed in the woody tissue of plants converting cellulose into lignocellulose.

still none the wiser but i always have wood in my tanks.

does that go for all loricariidae species? well, if thats the case then i'd have to put some bogwood in there then.. thanks

Hi!

Woods is not necessary for every species, only a few does actually feed out of woods this include Panaque, the members of theHypostomus cochliodon group and possibly one or two genus but most would do fine without it... "especially the carnivorous species"...
