hya all has anyone breed the l349 before and if all info welcome as its very limited on the internet cheers colin.

I haven't kept these, but I would expect

Ancistrus sp(L349)

to breed in a very similar way to other Ancistrus species.

As it is from Rio Huallaga, which is a white-water river, I would expect the water to be in the middle of the tropical temperature, and neutral in pH with relatively high conducivity - naturally over 50 ppm, and the fish will probably breed in tanks up to 150-200 ppm.

As usual, good feeding and a cool water change is a good way to start breeding.

Of course, being wild-caught fish, they are probably not quite as easy to get to breed as our common bristlenoses that breed at the drop of a hat.

Considering the number of keepers in the Cat-eLog is 3 (noting that yourself isn't on this list), and two of those three list that they have a single specimen - if that is correct, there is only one keeper that has any chance of breeding these fish (again, not counting yourself).

I'm sure there are some people that aren't members here that keep these fish, but the number of keepers is generally a good indication of whether a fish is common or unusual. This fish is rather unusual.

As a comparison, I keep

Imparfinis pseudonemacheir

, which has three keepers. This is a fish that has been imported ONCE to the UK to our combined knowledge.

To add yourself to the keepers register, you go to the species page in the Cat-eLog, and click the link saying "Add to my cats" next to the species name under the pictures. You can then edit the information about how many you have, when you got them, etc. You can also add an aquarium in "My aquaria" to record where you keep them, in what water, etc.

Hiya all i have managed to get these Green Lantern catfish to breed, i have just discovered today! The information i can give you all is this. Recommend 240 litre tank with no aggressive eg columbian tetras and severums. They like a piece of bog wood with a cave inside of it to lay, and a sandy bottom. Only food I have feed these catfish crisp flake food. Ask me some questions call me on 07790362995 i will try my best to asist you.

the catfish have eaten the eggs, as this is the first time they have breed! fingers crossed they will breed again. i shell keep you all updated on this!
