Interesting to see what the experts say about the ID, I'm not particularly educated on the subjecct. The top one certainly looks different to the rest, but the other three look a bit different to the regular L190 we get.

The one at the top looks like a panaque cf armbrusteri Rio Tocantis...the other three are panaque cf armbrusteri Rio Xingu

Re: Nice new Royal :)
That first fish looks brilliant, like you say with gaps and lines. I hope you can update us with how he progresses. Sadly, I'm certain the lines will change as he grows, but hopefully he retains the nice proportions.
I'm confident that all the fish pictured are Panaque nigrolineatus, not P. cf. armbrusteri 'Tocantins' or 'Xingu'.

Re: Nice new Royal :)
None of them look like our normal L190.
The two on the right side of the bucket have very thin and close together stripes, which isn't normal for Panaque nigrolineatus as far as I knew. I will have to wait for them to show themselve to get another pic of the nose to see if it is longer then usual.
The bottom one has spots on it's belly and on the fins and a sligfhtly green look about it, maybe a young L330?

Re: Nice new Royal :)
I really can't see anything pictured or mentioned that isn't typical for Panaque nigrolineatus.

Here's a pic of a L190 I recently bought, it looks far more typical of what we get here in NZ as "royals".matthewfaulkner wrote:I really can't see anything pictured or mentioned that isn't typical for Panaque nigrolineatus.
To me, the fish in the first pic looks quite different as the base colour is more of a yellow colour, and the dark stripes are much further apart. Also the stipe pattern extends more into the pectoral and dorsal fins and is much more defined than in my fish. The other fish in the bucket have more "typical" looking stripes, but still more boldly striped fins and more of a yellow-ish colour (could be the pic perhaps, haven't seen them in person).

I don't agree....young L190 look different. The L027 has on young age already the yellow/gold patterenmatthewfaulkner wrote:I really can't see anything pictured or mentioned that isn't typical for Panaque nigrolineatus.

I think the two in the right bottom corner look like young 330. The other two look like 190.
How about some mouth and belly shots?

Re: Nice new Royal :)
James are the eyes the same orange colour as the "normal" royals we get, or duller?
