An Oscar. .

Post by stibolt »

Hi People!

So: I´ve bought myself a red Oscar. . which I´ve planned to buy for about a year. He´s really a beautiful little fish, about 7 cm (Won´t be long before he´s gigantic. . )

But I´ve got one question: He´s really hungry - all the time! And pretty greedy too. How would I know how much to feed him? It´s not like an ordinary fish: he practically jumps up and bites my fingers, when I feed him. I wouldn´t like to starve him - on the other hand I don´t want to give him too much food.

I know it´s not a catfish-question, but. .

Why not try posting your question on the British C-ichlid Association Forum?
It is much like this one, but deals with, erm, 'Cichlids';

It's only a youngster yet, give it time. I'm cross-pollinating like mad!
Bear in mind also, that so far there have been no posters who want to keep an adult Cichla in a pint pot

p.s. sorry about the you-know-what game. I did really want to see you and Wales there to give those euro-divas something to lose sleep about.

You only need to feed juvie oscars 2-3 times a day and adults 1-2 times a day. They ALWAYS beg for food so get used to it

- Thanx :) I´ll try the other forum. . However I´m not usually the c****d-kinda girl, so I feel much more at home in a catfish forum. . Imagine, that there are aquarium-people out there, who are not fond of catfish. .

You're not alone in there!

It's weird, still. I'm a catfish-lover for ALL (!!) of my fishkeeping years and I like cichlids too.

but it's interesting to see that cichlid is a swearword here, whereas c*****h is just plain "catfish" on all of the cich-lidforums I hang out (wich is quite a few)

There ARE people there that don't like catfish, or nag about the amount of poop a Common Pleco produces, but they're very rare, compared to the people over here that don't like cich-lids......

just a thought!

It's SO like the music scene! According to those idiots in the media; at one time it was a deadly sin to like both the Beatles AND the Rolling Stones (or more recent Oasis AND Blur etc).
Well I like both Stones and Beatles, thank you very much!
Ditto Cich-lids and catfish

But about 80% of all the posts are of the "Hi, I have a frontosa in a tank with a pleco. The pleco poops a lot. What can I do??? Oh, and BTW, if the front and pleco have sex, will I get baby frontosa? Thanx!" variety. There are a few helpful people on there though, Sid being one of them.

Rusty i think you might have hit the nail on the head there, quote from the cichlid forum:
We have 2 fronts they were the same size when we got them but theres one now whos visably larger and the other smaller one stays behind the rocks more the larger one is more in control and usually they both have their colors on except sometimes the smaller one is less colored when its around the big one does it mean they are both males?
imagine thats the first post i've read on that forum.
