I reackon separate species tanks is essential, to reduce intraspecific competition and ultimately stress on the species you want to breed (same goes for most cats I've bred).

So long as individuals of the same species are not overly aggressive with each other and you provide enough cover and suitable foods I dont see why the Tatias wouldn't produce young in time.

The tanks the Centromochlus were in previously were just a bit too boisterous.

I was pleased to get an in-focus picture, as you know they're pretty lively when they get going.

To me they aren't that lively.
Only when food is present, specialy bloodworm.

When the lights are out, and only a blue moon light is on, they still aren't active in the evening.
At that moment the TV is on, maybe that's the reason they won't come out.

Could that be a reason ?
Early in the morning with no TV on, they are active in my situation.

fully grown Tatia intermedia do get quite frisky, both when breeding and also when fighting territorial disputes....

it's not unheard of that sometimes deaths occur; they can get quite fierce!
they can do damage when they fight.

In my experience no, with the exception of Tatia sp. Rio Nanay. My big male takes chunks out of fins of much stockier Trachelyopterus

These C Schultzi are lovely fish. Depending on the light they are bluey grey or goldy brown. Very greedy. I hear Pier Aquatics are getting in some more...
If they get to 4-5"... WOW. Currently about 2.5-3".

Hypancistrus sp(l333)

. The L333, for what it is worth was about the same length as the jaguar cat, so we might need to update the tankmate compatibility info in the Cat-eLog. That was one expensive feeder fish. The jaguar can't even fit in his/her cave as it is so fat. Looks like it swallowed a tennis ball. Note that this fish was regularly fed live earthworms, so it was hardly starving.
The jaguar now has earned a name from my wife, but it is not suitable for the forum.

PS The other jaguar is 100% healed and healthy. I would have never believed that any fish so damaged could recover.

I had a similar incident with my jaguars. The female was so beaten up that her insides were hanging out! I moved her immediately and she has recovered. I never thought the fish would have lived through that experience. I currently have a half dozen jaguars in a 150 with five large Scobiancistrus aureatus.

I picked up Spinipterus sp. "Novia Otorongo" today



In the shop there was a buch of other Auchenipterids like:
Tetranematichthys (!), Ageneiosus marmoratus, Trachelyopterichthys, Tatia intermedia.

The shop had 6 in stock. They weren't that cheap, so I hesitated buying more than the two.

I got two as I usually haven't got much spare cash, but they were relatively cheap IMO.

I love watching them cruise around the tank after lights out, hunting the bloodworm down. They get really fat bellies. So far they haven't shown any interest in dried foods.

I thought I'd put a woollen spawning mop in with my Centromochlus romani, mainly to provide some cover for young fry which had been appearing sporadically. I was pleased to find a female had decided to use it to spawn, rather like Corydoras would. Here's a few pics of female with eggs, close up of eggs and developing fry.

Hopefully, by removing the mop I can raise a few more than leaving things to chance in the tank.

Might be useful for others to try a mop for Centromochlids rather than the usual pipe, which my C. perugiae spawn in.

I suppose you whispered sweet nothings in the otoliths of the romani to encourage her to use the mop as a substrate too!

I took delivery of my first mail order from Pier last week. £80 saved on the diesel of driving there and back. All fish settled in and zero loses. Packing was excellent and the fish arrived about 9 in the morning after travelling through the night. Thought I'd post some pics.

While there were 5

(a steal at £6 a go) and 6

s - also not very expensive. As an aside, the doradids have really small mouths and so I'm feeding daphnia at present.

Both groups of woodcats are doing really well and already look at home. More pics to follow.

A few days ago I found unfertilised eggs of T Exilis.
All (about 8 ) had turned white and were wrapped-up in dead leaf material. It surprised me to find them at this time of year... in fact I was surprised to find them at all.
Previously I've see empty egg cases rolling on the sand.
Hopefully next time they will be fertile.

Those big eyes make this a really cute-looking small woodcat.

My otorongos from Pier settled without complication and are eating well. I held off feeding the last 2 days because their stomachs were so extremely distended, I was concerned at least one had a blockage. However today they look fine. Beautiful colours on these fish... camel-brown and lilac with evenly spaced black spots.

If you haven't tried woodcats before, try either of these 2 species and you will be hooked

They swell up because they gorge themselves so much on the livefood. Nothing to worry about. It's like you and your sausage rolls wrasse.

If only Pier shipped to the USA or better yet, if the fish were shipped directly from SA to the USA. We get some neat cichlid species in but some of the other fish groups are lacking.

Mine are the same - they are quite active at feeding time, even with the lights on and do exactly the same, though do have to compete with

Centromochlus perugiae

, but even so, their tummies do certainly bulge!
