i belive the top 1 is female with a orange vent.

Looks like female on top and male on the bottom. Apart from the clear difference in body shape, males also have a longer snout. If yours are anything like mine, you'll probably find that the male turns very hairy in autumn which signals the start of the breeding season.

i just broke up my 7 i had, 3 of them looked a bit dodgy, ( u can see the pics in the what species are these catogry )

2 of the ones i got rid of was haird up now, have been for a month. easy to spot a male, very hard to spot a female.

I believe the top one to be a female, but the bottom one could be male or female. They are very nice looking fish.
