Assistance needed from catfish breeders for scientific paper

Post by The.Dark.One »

I have been asked by an ichthyologist for help from the aquarist community.

The ichthyologist needs preserved specimens of as many different families, genera and species as she can of catfish in different growth stages.

The specimens are for a project that aims to understand the processes of development of catfishes and how they are different from other fishes. How the development has yielded to the loss, fusion and modifications of the bones. So studying ontogenetical series will allow her to establish the "true" identity of several bones by tracking the process of ossification of cartilages.

She is just putting together the proposal and, if approved, it will start next year in February and will be developed at the Natural History Museum in London.

She needs feedback before the end of June 2012 on what families/genera/species she could obtain, and if possible what growth stages.

If anyone can help please PM me. I think this is an ideal opportunity for the aquarist community to assist in the development of the scientific knowledge of the fish we love.
