Panaque maccus maturity

Post by wet-handed »

I have had a pair of old breeding P. maccus for a while now, they have bred in another setup but not mine yet. Well i have gathered 6 or so juvenile maccuss to grow out along with these breeders, iam guessing there between 6-12 months old. Today i watched one of the females go into a cave with the adult breeder male an has been in there all morning "trapped" in front of the male she is only about 1-1 1/4 inches is it possible that she is mature enough to drop an egg or two. This is my first attempt at breeding any L#.

I doubt that she's mature enough yet, but I'm going off of my experience with Hypancistrus.

I had a female who used to breed who was only a little bigger than that SL, but I agree with Milton that it is probably a little small. Mine was also a rescue from a gold fish bowl ~X( so she was somewhat stunted. I never expected her to breed. Are you talking TL or SL? (just the body or the full length if your not familiar with TL/SL)
I also had one male in my colony who would trap males and females if he could get them into his cave, he was a long way from the alpha in there, he just seemed to trap anything he could, other species too so I think he may have had fish psychological issues ;)
Motorcycles are not an expensive hobby, try keeping L-cats in Australia

I belive he is just missing his partner she seems to want nothing to do with his cave. The little female is out an nothing left behind. Better luck next time. I have a few that I am pretty sure are mature, just gotta figure out the trigger. How long should I have a high t.d.s., an how high should i raise it. I get it up to around 250 or so should i go higher an for how long. What temp? Its 79-82F now ,probably not warm enough huh? The females are nice an plump, I would not say over weight but plump.
