What is the most aggressive pleco you have ever owned?

Post by bigamefish »

Hey everybody! Just an interesting thought I had, what is the most aggressive pleco you have owned? Mine would have to be my l-091 he always just pokes his snout out of his cave and waits for a fish to get too close then he ever so casually attacks them! My hand has fallen victim a couple times as well, ya know for a little guy he has a nasty bite! Strangely enought he is my favorite pleco!

Re: What is the grumpiest pleco you have ever owned?

Post by Richard B »

"grumpy" is a term applied primarily to humans & does not really translate to fish. Their more basic behaviour is aggression or defending of territory and the ability to mix with other species in the confines of an aquarium.

Acanthicus Adonis would be the answer I'd give...
Lou: Every young man's fantasy is to have a three-way.
Jacob: Yeah not with another fu**!ng guy!
Lou: It's still a three-way!

She's (Meg) about 16" now Dave. My male is about 18". Cave is a 12"x 12" x 30" clay chimney pipe. I still owe you for her Dave. I think I may just fill a box with Xingu river Hypancistrus fry and give you a tracking number. I owe Barbie a few fish too...

I'm sure he's not any more worried about you sending fish than I am Dale ;). Get moved and get your doodoo all in one pile, then worry about it!

I should never have sent you proof I had tank space! :))

And not to derail the thread, I had an A. adonis at the shop once that would literally stalk and pounce on angels and any other flat sided fish he could grab, in spite of heavy feedings, at only 6". Definitely an aggressive nasty little bugger!

I had a 6" albino bristle nose that would kill every female I tried to put with him. I lost around 20-25 female bristlenose females due to him.

Nvcichlids,
Sounds like it is time for a new male ABN! Even if you could find a female tough enough to survive would you really want to risk passing on the aggression? All of the ABNs I have had have always been on the timid side.

the most aggressive encounter was from a 10in goldline...it whacked the h#ll out of my 14in L24....followed by further attack from a L63 (the pc feature Cat-elog, before I sold it)...the L63 bit the underbelly of the wounded L24 causing fatal injuries....the L24 was dead after a day :((

I eventually sold both the goldline & L63.

In one of my tanks My female L205 is a real bully, weather it's feeding time or if another fish goes near her cave, she uses the large spikes to ward off other fish.

In another tank it is my femal L66, she just picks a cave & kicks out whoever is in it, weather it's one of the L91's or L264's, all the fish know not to mess with her.
