The san francisco bay area seems like its been hit by a fish sucking tsunami! Many stores have disappeared. Hard to find interesting and/or unique fish in the area. I need to order some dwarf ancistrus, can anyone help?

OK so I've tried emailing and "pm'ing" jodyr35, no response. Can anyone possibly direct me to some distributors, breeders and/or websites that might have them available?

I managed to get in contact a bit earlier, only a week before I found my group, and requested a pic. The pic sent via email was a common brown. There was no response after that. I found a lot of people during the six months I was searching that wanted to pass commons off as claro. I don't know if they really weren't able to tell the difference, or just though all two-tone Ancistrus that aren't black are the same fish. Most got upset at me when I tried to explain the difference, so I just started telling them they don't have the correct species and left it at that.

Ancistrus claro as a whole have become exceedingly difficult to get anywhere. They are out there, but far from being as regularly seen as they once were. I'm working to condition my group, but won't have anything available for at least a couple months after they begin spawning. There is a very long list of people looking for this fish.

Thanks for the response pleco_breeder. I guess I'm trying to get on any of those list if possible. I know there are lots of 'misinformed' sellers out there and I definitely am not interested in A. cirrhosus or anything like that right now.

I'm not keeping a physical list for fry. I used to do that and it was just too much work, and never seemed to get any shorter. However, I will likely be making posts on the few forums I actively visit to move fry once they become available. I have what appears to be three pair and a spare adolescent male. Given the success I've had from the other three colonies I've kept in the past, I expect there will be quite a few fry to move once they start producing.

I know the age of one trio is over a year and a half, so they should be mature enough to spawn once conditioned. It's getting that first spawn after a rather long move that normally takes the longest. I'm keeping food constantly available in the tank, the male has taken up a cave, and has even had a couple "visits". However, I haven't seen any eggs in there yet. It could be that he is hiding a small spawn in there. He is constantly fanning as if there is something there, but has been doing this for a couple days with nothing visible.
