setting up the big un. a new showtank
it's not here yet
but ordered and glass is paid for
the stand, biofilter and quarantaine tank are here; currently I'm trying to get it level (plump level? carpenter level?)
anyway, that it's neatly horizontal.
it's going to be the biggest tank I have ever owned; 2231 liters or 589 US gallons
3,5 meter long, 85 centimeters wide and 75 cm high
it will be the only tank downstairs in the living room, apart from a quaraintaine tank underneath it.
the fish in there will be a mix of my larger showtank fish and these are most African riverines, Madagascar cichlids and for now the 5 Rhamdia quelen.
the Rhamdia's I can't fit in any of the other tanks, but they won't bust out of this one.
the tank will not be brought in 1 piece, but glued in the living room by Franky, a Belgian tank constructor
pictures will follow!

Re: setting up the big un. a new showtank
well, been busy and not much of a photographer; but the stand is now level, beton-plex (extra strong plywood with epoxy covering) made for under and up the stand
here you can see the biofilter; I'm in the back tinkering with the foamplate under the quarantaine tank
this thing is so big, it makes me look tiny......

Re: setting up the big un. a new showtank
the builders are in and the whole place smells like silicone glue
the front pane alone weighs 100 kilo's....i had it in my hand together with the 2 tank builders, awful heavy......
the next few days my home will look like a glass and glue factory.

Re: setting up the big un. a new showtank
the tank is finishes and ready; today I glued the heavy plywood boards on top of the frame
tomorrow a bunch of isolation will be added to both wall and on top of the stand and saturday is gruesome:
we have to put this dinosaur on top of it.
cross my thumbs

Re: setting up the big un. a new showtank
I'm not much of a photographer
my camera's busted and I can't handle them things; they give me the gyp
luckily I got friends with smartphones (another gadget that I will never own), so I can post some pix.
today we had to hoist this dinosaur on its' stand!
man, my back hurts now like I got hit by the warhammer of Robert Baratheon
it got quite stressy too; my house is small and so we had to lift it with 7 people, put one end on the stand and turn it, shove it and pull it on top of the stand
ah well; I'll heal
still on the ground
on the stand
man, it's huge
and heavy! just the glass weights half a ton or so.

My back started to hurt just by looking at this thing......
Great job anyway. You'll have some spare time (I guess) in one and a half week, when we'll have a long weekend (Thu-Sun). By then you've waited long enough according to the builder and checked it as well.
And then you can fill her up. That's going to be something

Re: setting up the big un. a new showtank
and how big IS it really....
well, I am 6 foot and a bit when dressed and wearing my cowboy boots (184cm)
check the door behind me, that's a standard doorway; 200cm height
and I'm tiny next to the tank!

Re: setting up the big un. a new showtank
Is the sump the tank on the bottom left? What are all those tanks under the rest of the stand? Or are they also part of the filtration?

Re: setting up the big un. a new showtank
the wide tank under the big un is a quarantaine tank; the long tank that looks like many tanks glued together is a bio filter

Very nice. Quarantine tank built in. Now there's an idea I like, as all my quarantine tanks seem to turn into regular tanks.sidguppy wrote:the wide tank under the big un is a quarantaine tank; the long tank that looks like many tanks glued together is a bio filter

Every now and then a regular tank turns into a quarantaine tank in my place: I get fish, arrange a place, put them in and hey presto, the tank did become a quarantaine tank2wheelsx2 wrote:Very nice. Re: setting up the big un. a new showtank
believe me, build in quarantaine tanks sooner or later turn into regular ones here tooNow there's an idea I like, as all my quarantine tanks seem to turn into regular tanks
i have the same set up (but much smaller!) upstairs, where my Tocantins tank has a smaller quarantaine tank underneath
that quarantaine tank is running for weeks now with wood, plants, young characins and juvenile Ancistrus sp Tocantins.....
