That is amazing!
Do you have a breeding guide?
Also, how fast did the F1´s mature?

Good job! Does F2 mean that both the parents were also tank bred (F1)?

Yes it does (or should, if the term is used correctly).matthewfaulkner wrote:Good job! Does F2 mean that both the parents were also tank bred (F1)?

Thanks Mats. That makes it a bigger accomplishment than I first thought, I hope we can hear more about it!

Re: Most beautiful Baryancistrus xanthellus in the world!
Hi
The term F2 is used correctly, so the parents really are tank bread. But the F1 were not raised by me. They have been bread in Switzerland some years ago. I think most of you already read about it, and maybe even have seen pics of the grand parents of this fish.
I am currently working on a breeding report, collecting and documenting all the details. So at the moment, i will not talk about the details! But i wont make a secret about it, promised, just need your patience, thanks!
By the way, some pics of the parents, as well as a vid showing the breeding activity. Enjoy!

I didn't mean to imply F2 was incorrectly used. And congratulations, great work! Hopefully they'll get better at it next time!

Hi!!
Nice to see and read that Johannes' strain is doing good!!
looking forward to reading more about your experience.
If I remember correctly the first few spawn of the grand parents weren't successful or much at first...
Still this is a very promising news
Cheers

Re: Most beautiful Baryancistrus xanthellus in the world!
Someone beat me to it!Well documented breeding in captivity has been accomplished once. The fishes had a very specialised diet of blended meat, fish and vegetables and were kept in a large aquarium with lots of current, high DO and spawned at 30°C. The free swimming fry were fed the same food to raise them.
But you are right... my bad for pointing out a problem instead of fixing it
