I'm not that experienced with Auchenipterids yet, but to my opinion the Augeneiosus from Bijn's two pictures are females.
Am I right ?

Looks to me that the lower one is a male and the upper a female...Phyllonemus wrote:I'm not that experienced with Auchenipterids yet, but to my opinion the Augeneiosus from Bijn's two pictures are females.

I'm guessing they are the same Richard showed off earlier in this thread.wrasse wrote:Just a few shots of these cats. Note the greeny-gold colour and dash-dash pattern.
They are feisty when the food goes in!
They have settled well and are quite greedy!

Re: Which Auchenipterids are being kept by PC members?
can anyone share his or her experiences with ?
I'm tempted to add this species to my Rio Tocantins tank.
there's a short vid in the Clog by Jools;
are they always like this or do they hide regular Driftwoodcat style once settled?
and are these like Hassar et al; afraid of other bigger fish or no?

Here's my best wishes on that. And if she was any riper, she'd probably do a "Mr Creosote" impression.wrasse wrote:Not the clearest video, but as you can see, the female is now very ripe. Just need her to spawn

I am out of town, but the wife called and said that the injured jaguar finally ate an earthworm tonight. For the record, his fast lasted from 17 Feb to 1 May. Just shy of six weeks.

Re: Which Auchenipterids are being kept by PC members?
we used to have a large female Trachelyopterus galeatus in the big Orinoco tank in my former home
it was one of the females from Marc and we assumed she would be fine
however; she didn't agree; she wedged herself between a piece of wood and the left pane of glass and refused to move or eat.....for almost 7 months!
only if we disturbed her, she would move and within minutes return to the same spot
once we got her out and gave to Bijn, she was reunited with her former group (by then Bijn had taken in Marc's other galeatus) and she started eating again.

Pretty good... a small earthworm every other day and it should be back on the rails in no time. Did you manage to sex your jags?Shane wrote:I am out of town, but the wife called and said that the injured jaguar finally ate an earthworm tonight. Not yet, but I would like to. Problem is that they live in ceramic "pleco burritos" so I have no idea how I would ever get them out of those things.Did you manage to sex your jags?
Eventually I'll need to find a way.

Getting those caves out of the water will do the trick. Lios are not nearly as stubborn as Spinipterus or Trachycorystes, so they will abandon the "burritos" quite quickly ime.Shane wrote:Problem is that they live in ceramic "pleco burritos" so I have no idea how I would ever get them out of those things. Re: Which Auchenipterids are being kept by PC members?
While I added the last 3 Ageneiosus cf atronasus to the large tank last Monday (I keep 7 specimens atm), I had to get another Ageneiosus (sp. 3 actually) out today. Not too difficult, for it was dead(*). Imho this dominant male died of old age, as it was completely worn out.
The ironic part is that the inferiour male (my last specimen of this species) is still alive and is health wise improving when compared to some weeks ago, when I was absolutely sure it was about to die.
: nevertheless, even dead it managed to tangle itself up in my net, but this time I didn't have to hurry to get it out.......

The Tatia strigata's are doing just fine overhere.
It is the most vivid and visible Auchenipterid I have:
During dinertime the 3 show up as first and swim frantically around the whole tank.
I like 'm.

So it's a good thing you didn't pick the Tatia sp. Baruri (which were T. exilis). A very nice fish, but no match for the T. strigata!

depends on taste; IMO Trachelyichthys exilis is far more beautiful than any Tatia.....A very nice fish, but no match for the T. strigata!

What a beautifull Tatia, Steve!
It looks like a crossbreed of C. concolor and C.perugiae in a way.
Great! Have fun with them.

Re: Which Auchenipterids are being kept by PC members?
I've been keeping a group of 4 Centromochlus romani (3m, 1f)for a few years and seperated them to their own 15gallon tank a few months ago. I noticed a few babies swimming around which appear to be doing just fine after about 8 weeks. Actively feeding on bbs. I fished one (of the youngsters at 6 weeks) out for a pic last week.
