Hi Steve,

Yes!
First, the colour pattern. There is a distinctive dark body crossing band at the dorsal fin at "Peru II" (badly visible at the pictures here). In general the colour pattern of "Peru I" differs to the colour pattern of Peru "II". "Peru II" often shows a dark net whereas "Peru I" just has dots and small lines. Unfortunately the colouration of both species is variable.
Second, the spines of the ventral fins are filamentous elongated at "Peru II", not at "Peru I".
Third, the coloration of the fry. Freshly hatched fry of "Peru I" are laced with diminutive dark spots. The fry of "Peru II" shall be completely black like freshly hatched or or .
Unfortunately I didn't have keept P. sp "Peru II" yet, so I cannot give statements to any other morphological differences of both species.

Hi Steve,

I think this species will be the same as shown in the third picture of .
It differs to "Peru I" by colour pattern and body height. "Peru I" and "Peru II" are extremly flattened, this species not.
Do you have some other pictures, specially from the head in dorsal view?

Hi Norman

I don't have other pictures, sorry. This was taken in Pier Aquatics, Wigan.

The ventral fins don't have extensions so I suppose this also leans it towards Peru I.
Thanks
Steve
