Storing Non-Catfish Aquarium Inhabitants
In the previous version of the 'my Aquaria' system, I remember having listed the other inhabitants of my tank (just for my reference). Whilst there is the option to add in all about the hardware in the current system, there is no space for other info, such as the other tank inhabitants and/or plants. Could there be a box for, say, 'other livestock'?
Just a thought

Re: Storing Non-Catfish Aquarium Inhabitants
Yes, good idea. Need to discuss with Jools on this, but I should think it's possible to do the right thing here.

Thanks Mats
I have seen others use the hardware to store details about the plants (Jools does it with one of his tank), but just thought it may be useful for us to be able to show what fish we keep alongside the catfish.

Re: Storing Non-Catfish Aquarium Inhabitants
It would probably be a good idea to be able to see both "plants" and "other fish" kept in a catfish tank.

I do plan to allow you to chose other fishes (and potentially molluscs, inverts, plants) but let's just keep it to fishes. This would be accomplished by sharing data with aquaticrepublic.

Re: Storing Non-Catfish Aquarium Inhabitants
I won't comment on merging with Scotcat [1] , but the "non-catfish" part is a reasonable way out. Bear in mind that Jools and I are the only two people working on programming for this site, and we do this on spare time.
Then, for it to be meaningful, we need Cat-eLog updates with the species of fish. There is some work being done on this for a few different groups, but there are lots of gaps as well. And it's lots of work adding the thousands of species that are needed to make this work. The just under 3000 species of catfish have been added over more than 10 years, but as more people are involved in adding species, it will obviously be quicker now than when planet catfish started. However, it's still a lot of work.
[I recently checked Fishbase for the number of species barbs, and just in Barbus and Puntius, those two genera come into about 500 species].
[1] edit: I should make clear that I'm not aware of any plans that this would happen, but it's not something I would have any information on until the plans are fairly close to happening - I just re-read my post and thought it implied that there could be such plans.

Mats,
Just a reminder to talk about this one this weekend when we meet up. The time for ARN cross site sharing is near!

Re: Storing Non-Catfish Aquarium Inhabitants
Hi All,
Sorry to bring this up while all the major 31 work is still in progress, but I observed something about the PlanetCatfish forum that seemed to address this issue and I wanted to know if the feature can be extended to another area of the PlanetCatfish website:
If you list a non-catfish species in a forum post here at PlanetCatfish (which I did recently), and that species is represented on http://www.AquaticRepublic.com, then you can put the species' name in a CLOG bracket and the link works to show the fish photo here on PlanetCatfish. E.g., .
Is there any way to gain access to these CLOGs in the "My Aquaria" pages, so that we can include non-catfish species in our tanks? I realize that this is what I'd call a "bell-and-whistle" feature for the website (i.e., a luxury), so this is not intended to be a high-priority suggestion, considering everything else that is going on.
Cheers, Eric

Re: Storing Non-Catfish Aquarium Inhabitants
Eric,
It's still in beta test mode, but the idea is if you register an account with AquaticRepublic.com which must have exactly the same username, and add some species then it will show up in your list of species here.
With everything that's going on, I've not publicized this or really pushed using it, but it is there and available for the strong of heart to have a crack at...

Re: Storing Non-Catfish Aquarium Inhabitants
Hi Jools,
Thanks for the info. I thought that might be the case, so yesterday I registered at AquaticRepublic with the same username and added my fish there. As of this morning, my other (non-cats) fish aren't showing up over here yet. Perhaps it takes more time for the shared databases to synchronize between the two websites; or else maybe that's what you mean by "beta test mode."
Again, no rush and no pressure.
Cheers, Eric

Likewise, I get no sharing.
It will be very useful once it is working well.

Re: Storing Non-Catfish Aquarium Inhabitants
I think this is one that I need @Mats help with if we're going to get anything up and running anytime soon. I've got a tonne of other things to do and this one needs quite a bit of my thought but Mats (who is more familiar with it) should be able to get it running faster.
