Hi im new to the fourm and i am making a pond for my catfish and i know they can survive through winter (i live in canada and i took them out of a lake since they were an inch long) by goin to the bottom of the lake so can anyone give suggestions to how deep my pond should be? :?: :!:

The pond needs to be at least 24" deep. You might also want to keep an area of the pond ice-free to allow for gaseous exchange.

24" still seems a bit shallow to me. My old pond here in Illnois, right near Chicago, was right around 2' and it froze nearly solid. I dug my new one to just about 4' to be safe.

The deeper the better, but i normally advise 3 feet if you can get it.

I have read that 3-3.5 feet is a good minimum for areas where you will get ice over the winter.
