Pseudacanthicus Spinosus Spawn w/eggs L160
Hard work a planning has paid off in a big way again! My Pseudacanthicus spinosus successfully spawned over the weekend. I am kind of busy with these and another L600 spawn a few weeks ago.
Here is a quick photo and a few video clips. Video of Spawning
Video of male with eggs
Enjoy,
Jim

I'm curious what that is he's using as a cave. I'm having trouble finding reasonable caves for large plecos, so any advice is appreciated. PVC doesn't seem to be a good option once they get so big ;)

Re: Pseudacanthicus Spinosus Spawn w/eggs L160
Thank you all for the kind words.
For the spawn there were only the pair in the tank with some dither fish. I picked up a pair in July and another male in September. After months of trying with the pair I switched the males. Two days later they started to spawn.
The male is almost 9" TL and the female is over 8" TL.
For caves I have had over a dozen custom made. You will always guess wrong if you order just one. Pseuda's have no interest in plastic pipes from my experience.

Re: Pseuda Spinosus Spawn L160 - UPDATE
It has been almost 2 weeks since they spawned. Overall everything has gone well so far. The only tense point was when I had to collect the fry 2 days after they started to hatch. I normally like to keep the fry with the male until they are almost free swimming. The male was looking very tired and he was not fanning the fry very well. The fry were looking distressed so it was best to take them out. They should be free swimming in another 2 days. The pictures are from when the fry were removed and then today. There are over 100 but did not want to stress them trying to get an actual count.

The next challange is to find another Pseuda species to work with!Jim

Wow I'd say you got another challange! Get them to breed again in a few months! That way I can buy some of those beautiful plecos from you!! As far as another species I wish you nothing but luck. I am sure you can pull it off too. It is so awesome you got your spiny's to breed.

Re: Pseudacanthicus Spinosus Spawn w/eggs L160
Everything has been going great! Thanks. It has been a busy time between work and all of the other spawns (L600s) I have been blessed with lately. Here are photos of the adults and the fry at 21 days. I am still trying to take better photos.
The female The male The fry at 21 days I think the fry will grow out very nicely to match the parents. I have another male but he has very fine spots over the head (like the L114 vs L600)but I did not want to create 'mutts'
Just asking (yes I realize what I am asking): If anyone is willing to part with adults of other types of Pseuda's please send me a PM. I am serious in buying/trading. I know the export list has been greatly expanded and will start to become available again. Tank raised adults will be easier to work with than wild caught.
Have a great day,
Jim

That is awesome! They are looking good. You said you got your L600s to breed to? You are the Pseuda master Can we get some pics of the L600s? I just bought 2 of them 2 weeks ago they are about 2 inches. So what do you have to do to get put on the list to buy some spinys? Had to ask, sorry.

Re: Pseudacanthicus Spinosus Spawn Update
A few people were asking for an update so here is a photo of the fry at 9 months. They are 2-3". Some are brown and some are grey just like the parents. The parents both stopped growing a bit over 9" TL and they are very docile as compared to my L600s. I have had a total of 3 spawns this year.

PS. There are still some for sale.
