What a great site! I got this cat from a friend who wanted to get rid of it because it was getting too big for her tank. She found out that I love catfish so here I am with an unidentified cat. She said she got it 3 - 5 years ago but couldn't remember where, or tell me anything else. He is a very shy fish about 8" long. Thats all I know about him. I appreciate any help you guys can give.

Looks like a Ictalurus punctatus to me!

Thanks for the quick reply. I never would have guessed that because of color. But youre right, it does look like one. Thank you for your help.

I'd agree with the ID - common channel catfish.

IMO it is highly strange that the fish is 8" after ~4 years. Mine grow to 1.5' or more (TL) in a year starting from 3"-6". That's the reason people farm channels everywhere in the states - for their fast growth. In the early stages of life, these cool fishes convert 1 lb of food into 0.5 lb of body mass. Very highly efficient.
