Corydoras and air space

Hello to All,
Do Corydoras require a head space between the water surface and the cover Glass on an aquarium? I.E do they come up and take air for their swim bladder?

Yes they do! They gulp air every now and then but it is beleived that they do it because of the oxygen in the air rather than balancing their swim bladder. And since that is a risky move in their natural habitat they often do it in a hurry, which mean they can come clean out of the water. Better leave about an inch at least between water surface and cover glass. Will save the little critters some headache

Thank you backstreetgambler, I have now dropped the water level, now she who must be obeyed is complaining about the sound of trickling water, don't know why the sound sends me to sleep.

airspace of about 0.5" is already enough.

more important is that you ventilate occasionally, so the air space has oxygen.....

0.5" wouldn't work in my case. C.venezuelanus are like rocket and even 1" is sometimes not enough. Splashes they do are just amazing, water is everywhere around tank even though I leave only 0.5" gap between cover glass and tank sides. Depends on the species of course.

I only kept regular little species, not big ones like the venezuelanus.....
