Hey guys,
I notice a few of you guys have sp. only tanks with a lot of caves and rock work.
I have a colony of 14 zebras. I also have 16 caves and a lot of rock work. Naturally its very hard to get a complete head count.
I've read a few threads with this topic in it. I was wondering, those that breed zebras, how often if ever do y'all break the tank down to do a head count?

Re: how often to do head count?
I don't currently have zebras, but have had several groups of them over the years. I've never broken down their tank to count them. IME, you get used to which is which. They are all slightly different and have their own personalities and favorite spots. I just got used to their favorite locations, and knew where to look for them. On occasion, they would move and I'd find them somewhere else, but that's not very common in an established colony where all the territories are established.
By breaking down the tank, you're essentially moving the fence to their front yard. They have no idea if their neighbor is on their property or vice-versa. However, they know they don't like it and are willing to fight to figure it out. It's going to be territorial disputes almost constantly till the colony re-establishes.
In short, my advice is don't do it. Let them be, enjoy them, and let things happen as they may.

Impossible only means that somebody hasn't done it correctly yet.

That's what I thought!
I haven't moved a rock since I put them in there.
I have notice less fighting and they are even coming out when the lights are on if I feed them.
In your experience how long does it take for a group to really settle down?
