What does your username mean?
Every username tells a story. Some mundane, some obvious, but other impenetrably obscure. What does your username mean, why did you chose it?
I'll start with the rather dull Jools which is a contraction of Julian, my first name. A bit like Mike/Michael and Andy/Andrew.
Next up?

In 1997 I was in love with everything Queensryche. I loved every album up to that time & every song except for one. That song was "Blinded" off of their self titled EP. Therefore, my username was born.

Re: What does your username mean?
My username, Sfamnun, is the Hebrew word for catfish in general and the genus in particular. It literally means "moustache fish" - safam being moustache and nun being an old word for fish.
ETA: Turns out that "nun" or "noon" as a word for fish is actually from Aramaic. It is commonly used in Hebrew animal names, but the commonest Hebrew word for fish is "dag".

Re: What does your username mean?
a guppy is of course a fish. one that's known for its' proliferation habits.
in Dutch the plural of 1 fish is "visjes"
when pronounced, it sounds like an English word, but one that means something quite different!
put it in there and say it out loud and you end up with a certain colorful and legendary character
it also points at my demeanor and my political view of things
in my heart of hearts I will always stay an anarchist to the bone.
I may behave, but like 'Grath, I'm not nice

Re: What does your username mean?
Boring and practical: Mats is my first name, P is the first letter of my surname/last name. It was my username on my work computer at the time I signed up to the forum. It is generally my username on forums and such, unless it's already been taken [unlikely in English-speaking countries].

Re: What does your username mean?
My interest in breeding small species of Loricariidae coincided with the acquisition of my first computer in early 2006.
In the years leading up to that event I had a wet thumb when it came to breeding Apistogramma species.
Between my Discus and new plecos I had to set aside most of the smaller tanks I like to use with Apistogramma and Killiefish.
But Apistogramma were still fresh in my mind and I still have some around most of the time.
I just grabbed "apistomaster" as a username out of the air since one has to have some cognomen for forum identification hence, "apistomaster". Now I wonder where my touch went. I have had good success with my catfish but my Apistogramma seem more difficult to breed than they used to be now that most of my tanks are larger.
I also encountered a new phenomenon with Apistogramma that I never had in the past. I began to order live black worms regularly and colonies always establish themselves in even a thin layer of substrate. My female Apistogramma took to taking on their brooding colors and standing guard over the red waving tails of the black worms. This has caused my Apistogramma to behave as if they already had broods to care for so they rarely breed any more. It is a frustrating turn of events.

I just used that when i registered on a forum at the time and its stuck. I now use it on pretty much every forum i use so people can (hopefully) make the connection with who they are talking to.

Re: What does your username mean?
Came from a really dumb occurrence. I was shopping in a LFS that I did a lot of business with and I corrected what a clerk was trying to tell me. I said, "Excuse me, but this is what I understand to be the correct information. . . . ." The manager and I were good friends and one day he told his new clerk to "go wait on Mr. Excuse Me" as a joke. I didn't know he had overheard me. But anytime I walked in all the clerks started to greet me as "Mr. Excuse Me" as he let them in on the joke. He finally told me why and I had to laugh. So now I use it as a username.

Re: What does your username mean?
Aside from keeping catfishes in aquariums, I also fish for them in the Colorado River (catch and release) in the Southwest of the U.S.A. The large species shown (pylodictis olivaris) are not native to that river but were transplanted there during the '60's from Texas where the slang name for flathead catfish is 'yellow catfish', hence the name 'yellowcat'...
Africa: Claroteidae- P. monkei, 3-P. punctatus, A. occidentalis-Volta, 3-A. biscutatus, 2-N. macrostoma. Mocho.- syno. batensoda, 2-syno. pardalis. South America: Pimelodids-p. blochii, 2-platysilurus mucosus. Pseudopim's- 2-lophiosilurus alexandri, batrochoglanis cf. villosus. Re: What does your username mean?
With a given name like Birger there is no need to come up with something a little different, or so I thought, surprisingly enough Birger Amundsen from Norway also frequents this site and is the only other Birger I have ever had any contact with.
We are also the same age...only thing he has kept mainly Corydoras and Loricariids and I have mostly African Cats.
Literally: Birger is a Scandinavian name from Old Norse, bjarga, meaning "to help, to save, to protect".

I used computers at school but were busy with family business and farm life until i got married than i found the internet....
Littlebristlenose,i first obtainetained my bristlenose colony in 1989.
All were small fish that i didn't know at time, were fry but we had large amounts of fish coming in that we had know idea what they were?
I'm keeping some fish atm but to busy with work with breeding atm,my bristlenose and other L's were from Brazil we used to loose 80% of fish in early years.

Re: What does your username mean?
my first name is Christophe... back in 1999, I was taking "salsa lessons" with my future (and actual) wife... During 4 weeks in October 1999, I had to stop the lessons to go to the army for a while (Swiss army was based on 4 weeks of duty every year at that time). Being away from salsa lessons, I couldn't learn what the rest of the group had learn during these 4 weeks... and my wife absolutely wanted to take part to a Christmas competition (newcomers category, nothing to be proud of)... so we took private lessons for me to fill the gap...
those private lessons were right before the normal and public lessons... we used to dance with the teacher and end the lesson with 2-3 musics that we loved, just for pleasure, while the others arrived for the group lesson... On the 4th private lesson, I was in a very specific mood and every single figure I tried was easily and smoothly executed... it was like dancing in a dream, a moment of pure pleasure without any fault or pressure... We danced and danced and danced during 4 musics one after the other... to finally realize that the whole groupe of public lesson was here from a while and they were "watching the show"... When we realized that everyone was focused on us, we lost the "grace" and stopped... and at this very moment, a spanish guy in the room shouted : "WOAHOU ! ElTofi the salsa King !" and the whole group begun to clap hands and to whistle... Patricia, the dance teacher was hilarious (and a bit proud, too)...
Very embarassing moment !
But the nickname was all found...
