Pseudacanthicus Sp. ???? Black - Spawning
I've had 6 of these for about 4 years now, got them around 2.5-3" and now are around 7"+
Lost 1 of them over the years so the group now consists of 5, I believe 3 males and 2 females.
They had been fighting a lot lately so I decided they needed a larger tank so moved them into a 6' 135g tank. (previous tank was 4' 75g. This move happened a week ago.
Well today I was doing some work on the old tank and noticed some little fish swimming along the bottom. The only other plecos in the tank are some L333's and I don't know if they are large enough to spawn.
Anyhow I got 7 of baby pseudas out of the tank and into a large fry saver. They are at least 1/2" in size and have no signs of egg sacs.
Any ideas on species?

Can't see the images. Might be best off uploading them directly to PC.

My guess is that the beat up one is the mother of these little guys - male making sure she stayed in the cave 'til the deed was done!
Congrats on the spawn!!!

Re: Pseudacanthicus Sp. ???? Black - Spawning
they look quite similar (adults and fry) to my "Black Pseuda Breeding tale" in 2009
we never had the final word on it... the options were : L320 or Pseudacanthicus sp "Alenquer"...
what it wasn't for sure : L282, L65
my male finally killed his female after more than 8 spawnings... and I gave him to a friend...
the few infos that can be held for sure :
- 7 days at 28 °C for hatching,
- fed with sera Viformo from hatching + 12 days,
- 7 cm (TL) at 8 months old
- white spots desapeared at around 6-7 months to fade into a brownish-black
anyway, congrats...

Do you have another picture of the brown one?
The pattern on the head makes it look like a Hypostomus.
Due to the Pseudacanthicus, they look like P. sp. "Alenquer" or L 65.

The brown fish is an L37. Its in there to take some of the aggression of the psuedas.
ElTofi, I remember your thread back in 2009 and mine look quite similar. How many fry did you end up getting from them?

Re: Pseudacanthicus Sp. ???? Black - Spawning
I had more than 8 spawnings, and I led the last of them to a 80% success... For the last spawnings I was stealing the fry at hatching + 3-4 days and raised them up in a floating nursery...CanadaPleco wrote: ElTofi, I remember your thread back in 2009 and mine look quite similar. The second spawning was the only one I led to 8 months and I gave them to a friend with a FS in France (see last picture here under). But for the other spawnings, I let the fry go at 4-6 months, when they were "safe and feeding".
Can't remember exactly how many I had, but when I ended my nursery, in late 2009, they were more than 60 Pseudacanthicus sp "black" between 3 cm
and 6 cm
...
This was the first "batch", right before leaving for France :

Re: Pseudacanthicus Sp. ???? Black - Spawning
I should post what my water parameters are.
PH around 7.5-7.6
Temp... guessing but 78-82 Not really sure at all, it varies.
Hardness... My water is liquid rock, around 380ppm
They spawned in a 75g aquarium, 48"x18" which is connected to 3 others and run on a central sump. There is 3 gallons of fresh water added to the system every hour of every day So about 30% fresh water added to the system daily.
Feeding is a huge variety of foods.
The fry are now eating NLS grow, and Kens Fish Golden Pearls, which are TINY bits of food consisting of Brine shrimp, squid, shrimp and fish protein.
