THE new Positive List

Post by Acanthicus »

Hey guys,

there is some really nice and really good news.

The new, and official Positive List has been passed. I don´t know when the IBAMA will update it´s website, but I just got this information personally!

Tomorrow it is supposed to be visible for everybody, but let´s wait for it.

Just awesome!

Nice!
There are some nice fishes on that list, but I did actually hope for more Hypancistrus.

Nice to also see L-024, L-025 and L-273

I guess we will receive many new and interesting Hypancistrus species under the L-066 and L-333, now allowed to export.

this release was mentioned at Hannover event last november :)
quite faster then we initially were expecting then :P

If I recall correctly, it was also stated there that this will be the last 'general' list, next time it will be a more specific (restricting) (quota?) one.
So cheer while we can :D

I don't think the next list [in about 5 years time?] would necessarily be more restrictive, but this is the last one where new undescribed species have been added. In future, species will have to be described to be added to the list.

Hi Mats,
that's correct, I think I see the scientific description as as a restriction :)

Do you remember what has been said about quota last november?

Not sure what the statement on quota was - if there was one. I remember it being mentioned, but not exactly what was said - it was a couple of intense days!

But so few species of Ancistrus and Panaque/Panaqolus, and no Parotocinclus. That's a bit surprising.

Howcome the Parotocinclus were removed from the list?

Also, people might find this interesting for comparison: the old list (XPS), and here's the new list for direct download (PDF).

Re: THE new Positive List

Not only Parotocinclus. Acanthicus and Chaetostoma aren´t listed as well.
Lots of species from the old list are missing.

Might be worth asking Henrique whether that is intentional or not...

I think Acanthicus is not an error... at least, the guy who sold me the Acanthicus hystrix 1 month ago told me it would be the last, as they got forbidden from somewhere in November ?

He won't be able to import Acanthicus any more (he told me)

to be crosschecked, of course
the Potamotrygon adventure has begun...

Chaetostoma wasn't on the old list either. There's lots of odd omissions, e.g. why are there no Hypoptopoma in the list?

Of course, this is a whitelist so mere doubt is sufficient to keep a species off the list.
