corys always hiding

Post by sophia35 »

When I had a 25-gallon aquarium, I used to see my corys swimming around. Since I moved up to a 50-gallon tank a few months ago, I never see the bronze corys. I see the peppered corys occasionally, but the bronze are always hiding. They must be coming out at night to eat. They are still alive; I saw them when I was cleaning and moved one of their caves. Also I have a couple of fry that are always out and about, so the adults obviously spawned at some point. In the smaller tank, they were spawning almost constantly. I thought they'd like to have more space; not sure why they don't seem as happy in this tank. Same tank mates and plants, etc. They just have more floor space.

More open space may scare them. Especially if the tank is brightly lit. Try adding some covering (floating plants, branches, etc), so that the fish feel more secure.
