Re: Just for fun: another exporter with nice fishes
there's some real weird stuff in there....
that first Banjo is mindboggling absurd
it freaks me out.
amazing thing.
look at the "pelican knife fish", it looks like something dredged up from the abyss.....
I'll bet this is a deep water species.
the Robocop Pygmy looks like Astrodoras asterifrons to me!
the Canero Black is something Hepapterus mustelinus or something??
it looks like a weird Hepapteridae.
the dorsal is too much up front to be a Trichomycterid and it's too "eely" for a Cetopsid
the black stralined catfish which they labelled as Imparfinis is also something like Leptorhamdia?
Marc, the Canero Dormilon rings a bell...
this looks like your old Cetopsid, the one from Blecha.
the golden color is a match, so is the shape, although this one is really fat.
they sure looked beyond the regular Apisto-Corydoras-L numer stock......
just look at all those odd Characins
whoa

Nice pictures, awesome!
I'd take the ID's with a grain of salt, most of the loricariids aren't to correct genus.sidguppy wrote:there's some real weird stuff in there....

Re: Just for fun: another exporter with nice fishes
I visited that particular establishment in August and I have to say that I was not overly impressed with the selection then. They have a fair few Cory species, 8 or 9 as I recall but no where near what I was told there would be. Loricarids were definitely a bit thin on the ground.
It might have had more to do with the water levels still being on the high side, about a meter and a half above normal.

I have a price list some where in my email from these guys, can't find it right now but they didn't have enough decent stuff on hand to make an order worthwhile.

there are a million exporters in the amazon and 999.990 of them translate catfish with just cory's and L numbers.....
it''s refreshing to see one that looks beyond that well-trodden path and goes for the weird stuff.

Re: Just for fun: another exporter with nice fishes
I'm not quite sure there's a million, in fact, I think a thousandth of that is a push. I am certain that, in terms of the ones I've visted or have dealt with, that they categorise catfish outside of Corys and Plecos. In fact, if you look at their lists, they tend to have three sub headings Corys, Plecos and (other) catfishes. But they all do them even if it's just a few pims and banjos.sidguppy wrote:there are a million exporters in the amazon and 999.990 of them translate catfish with just cory's and L numbers.....
Can't disagree with that - I just hope their commercial model is strong enough to allow them to keep exporting those things.sidguppy wrote:it''s refreshing to see one that looks beyond that well-trodden path and goes for the weird stuff.

Re: Just for fun: another exporter with nice fishes
Looks closer to don't you think??? Although there are differences in the placement of the dorsal from and patterns (collar stripe) from what I can see.sidguppy wrote: the Canero Black is something Hepapterus mustelinus or something??
But I know nothing 'bout this group of fish other than the fact that I would kill for a few specimens of these. The alleged Imparfinis especially. Gorgeous fish.
Off Topic : is the coolest SA catfish I have seen pics of. It is THE perfect fish IMO. Long barbels, resembles a and is jet black.

Sergeant: Not stone, sir.
Major: They're very good scissors!!

That Tatia appears on the blogspot link. Pier Aquatics had these in last year (I think they still have a small number) and they were a lot cheaper!Bijn wrote:Have you also been searching that Tatia that was on the Glaser-list?
This is what they are:

The pair have grown to be quite large, though this is to be expected for an intermedia complex. When they are smaller they have yellow spots in the tail and faint ones in the body.

Hi, there sure are some cracking stuff on there.
The first banjo - I had one of those a few years ago (Xyliphius lepturus):

A very weird fish.
I think the Robocop Pygmy is Physopyxis lyra, a lovely dwarf dorad:

Lets hope some more of these fishes show up in Europe (Glaser has some of them already). Oh to live in Germany!

Re: Just for fun: another exporter with nice fishes
I received a PM today from Tahuampa (the exporter) that he's selling fishes directly to the Netherlands via Ruinemans and that I could contact someone from there for any inquiry. That is of course a very tempting offer, yet the thing is that - imo - most of these fishes don't show up because they won't sell over here. Or if they do show up in the Netherlands, they won't make it to the stocklist, but are sold straight away to foreign shops? That may indeed be a good thing to ask Ruinemans; I might do that.
He (the man from Tahuampa) was also willing to give information about their fishes if needed. Which is a very nice offer as well. As he has become a member of PC, I'd like to say muchas gracias for that.
