Is anyone here heard about spawing Spatuloricaria sp?
I'm looking for a description or pictures, and the only one I fînd is a little presentation made by Glaser a few years ago...
I'm a bit worry for my own group...

Hi,

breeding of a Spatuloricaria sp. from Peru has been reported by Mike Hemmann in the (German) magazine "Amazonas", Issue 12.

The eggs a layed under a flat stone (the most off them). I'd never think that!

Next to FB, also here a Congratulation with crossed fingers!
It seems the flat stone with the eggs is directly streamed with a high oxygenic water current, isn't it?
This would match with all other breedings of Spatuloricaria I heared.

Yes, The spawn occurs directly in the pump stream (equiped whith a venturi).
I'm still looking for an information : how days between spawn and hatching?
This morning the male still guarding his eggs. Good boy

Cathy has 6 Crenicichla regani and 6 Geophagus sp. aff. altifrons "Nhamunda"in the same tank. This one is one of the Creni's.

As far as I know, Cathy hasn't seen any problem with the eggs till this day (day 9, I think). The male seems to guard his clutch very carefully. And the pike's are to small to be competitive against such a male ! I wonder what will hapen after hatching...

But Cathy may pass here during the day to tell you more.

Hi,

first, some news :

How many eggs?

About the others fishes and the tank.
It's overfull, like my other tanks... Found some species during trips these 3 last month. For some of them I was schearching since years (like Geophagus and Crenicichla)


Unfortunaly I have no place for another tank yet. But soon, I will change all my installation, and Spatuloricaria spp will be in a 130x60 (cm) tank, with only a few Melanocharacidium sp. (the little brown fish witch appears sometimes in the pictures).
The Pikes and the Geophagus spp will be in a 900l tank (190x70 cm). Both are little species for their genera.

But in this tank there's other fishes...

ElTofi will get a part of them (or the whole), 60cm it's a little too big for me.

This spawn was unexpected an I am the first surprised.
But it's not the first, the other female lay eggs at the beggining of september, on a tank pan. 2 days before the male eat them.
So I hope that it will happen again

Do you have to possibility to separate the fry after hatching for example in a nursery or raising tank?
It would be a pity if the fry would be food for Crenicichla & Co.

I'll try .
But in France, Spatuloricaria spp will be a very difficult fish to share... It's a big Loricarinae, and I have to say that it's not an easy fish to keep.
No planted tank, they are a little boisterous. I call them "my buldozers", as they turn over the while tank during the night. Big eaters, the tank needs big water changes...
I'll try to raise a few of them, for friends who told me that they are interesed with it but that's all.
