Gold Nuggets getting the bad wrap?
On another post the Gold Nuggets seem to be getting a lot of bad publicity. So, lets poll!
Plecos are the true centerpieces of any aquarium. Everything else just swims around them!!
27 members of Loricariidae, 12 different species.

I just wish they were more expensive and thus people would look after them better.

BTW, isn't it a bad rap (rather than Wrap)?

The fimiliar term is "Bad Rap". Comes from people talking (rapping) bad about a few negative experiences and people tend to follow the whole.
I think Pl*cos on the whole get a bad rap due to some slight aggressiveness or bad experience. Take the * we put in there name.
I would vote in favor of the Gold Nugget.

Yeap but it is usually because they are really nice to see, a small size when for sale and a cheap price that make people buying them without taking information regarding them.Jools wrote:I just wish they were more expensive and thus people would look after them better.

Plus as you find these now basically anywhere, the shop that don't know anything about simply just let their health go down...
When given proper care and a good quarantine period these are as tough as any other Loricariidae....
Cheers

I lost 3 out of 5 Gold Nuggets. They jumped out of the aquarium through
the feeding hole .
Otherwise, I have kept at least 4 of them for about 1.5 years and
haven´t had any problems (yet). They are about 4-5 inches and seems
to be fine. I have heard that one thing that can cause problems is overfeeding
or feeding with too meaty food.

Had them and lost them all. Had them at different times and different sizes. The last one I had was pretty large already and had been at my friend's tank for around a year and a half, I think. When it got to my place, it lasted a few months and then kaput! Before that I had two more also at different times (smaller ones, though). Same story.
I don't have as many problems with my other plecs as I do with them. They are ones that I've had the most and have lost the most. Such is life.

PS Oh yeah, I did get one recently! Its an L177. So far so good. I just acquired one around a month ago. I hope he doesn't go belly up like the rest.
