he's in a 29 gallon tank with a 7 inch pink kisser and catfish + big pink kisser = BIG MESS,
the water is brown with heavy filtration and he can knock the hood off the tank if he gets startled
i dont know if i should keep him in the tank by himself or not?
i dont even know if the koi will over winter in the pond
i used to have a bigger pond with a heater to keep it from freezing on top
but i moved and the heater doesnt work any more
It's a good bet that if the pond freezes, the koi will not make it through winter (unless your pond is very deep).
Unless you want to bring the koi indoors, you might as well invest in a new heater for the pond. The channel cat should overwinter fine with the koi then.
I had a channel cat a few years ago. it grew to 36" and it was quite destructive when it was in an aquarium so i moved it to my pond which is over 1500 gals where it attacked and severely injured my ghost koi which were 2ft or so long. they are best kept on there own of with other channel cats if you have suffcient space. they have a habit of taking chunks out of things too large to swallow. too keep an adult in an aquarium would be a task and a half you would need a tank at least 10ftlong by 3ft wideand to be honest that might not be big enough.
years ago I was given a 13 in albino channel cat by the owner of my lfs put him in my 100 gallon which he very qickly out grew the eat every thing. Luckly I live in the desert of so calif and made arangments with the local golf course to release him i there pond for a long time
they would buy him feeders and feed him pellits. They are really to big to keep in a tank. Just my 2 cents

when I got mine he was 13 in long when we tuned him lose he was allmost 30 in long we used a net from a swiming pool for both the chanel cat as well as my silver arowana when we moved him just make sure you buy it new so you dont introduce ant thing to your tank.

Put a tube in there, PVC should work. When he hids in there, put a net at one end and quickly pick up the other and dump the contents of the tube into the net. This is best done with two people. This is how I caught the ones in my pond for transfer.
