is this good as a temporary housing for my fish?

Post by jonthefishkid »

:?: in my other tank my albino channel cat started wreaking havok on it's tankmates out of nowhere!
the tank mates i saved are: 1 black skirt tetra, a small blue gourami, a 1 inch paradise fish, a 1 inch cory, and a 1 1/2 inch pink kisser.

i had groups of tetras and cories, but now only have one of each.

i had a 10 gallon running with feeder fish for my larger cats but i only had a few left so i stuck them in a 2 1/2 gallon tank with a whisper 2-5 micro filter.
i put the surving tank mates in the 10G thats been running for 6 months now and started getting low readings of ammonia and i'm guessing it's because i took a tank that had 3 rosey reds and dumped the other fish in there and these fish produce a much higher bio-load than the 3 minnows so the bio filter in the aquarium is being over loaded.
the channel cat is only 5 1/2 inches long and this is the first problem i ever had with him turning his other tankmates into fish meal he doesnt eat the feeder fish he just makes fish meal out of them!

A channel cat that size should be kept alone or with other fish of equal or larger sizes.
I feel sorry for your plight, but if you put channel cats with smaller fishes, that's just a disaster waiting to happen.

ok, but am i over stocking the 10 gallon?
the channel cat is going to get a home by itself as soon as I can, it's not that easy for me to get the money for a new tank all i need is a tank between 20 and 40 gallons i got a spare power filter already and i dont care that i dont have a hood; thats an easy diy task
for me.

hey i'm a 13 year old aquarist and my parents dont give me any allowance!

The fishes you have left should do fine in a 10-gallon for now. They would eventually have to be re-housed, but this is an adequate stopgap measure.
