Panaque Nigrolineatus in a planted tank

Post by pete »

I have got a plec Panaque Nigrolineatus that I would like to put in a planted tank not really as the algae eater as there are already shrimps and ottos in there.
I wondered if the Panaque would eat the plants and if it would be OK with the CO2 injection that is used for the plants?, would the higher CO2 levels in a planted tank be OK for a fish like this which comes from rivers in the wild ?
The water quality is good in this tank with zero nitrates so I think he would do well in there

Hi,
Panaque nigrolineatus eat plants but not all plant spieces. He is very likely to damage your broad leafed plants.

They do seem to have a taste for the broadleaf swords. Mine has eaten two (whole plants) so far. 8)
Plecos are the true centerpieces of any aquarium. Everything else just swims around them!!

27 members of Loricariidae, 12 different species.

Panaque nigrolineatus is the Agent Orange (a chemical defoliant used by the US military to turn jungles into moonscapes) of planted tanks. Definitely NO!
