Pier Aquatics visit

A couple of friends and your Unholiness went to Pier today having seen the latest blogspot images of weird Doras. Some cracking fish. The most stunning were some massive Panaqolus 'Arabesque' cats (possibly adult L452?). They were around 5 to 6 inches SL! Excuse my crappy images but they were a sight to behold. The dominant fish was sat on the top of the piece of bogwood, surveying his kingdom.

There were also:

Anadoras sp (possibly grypus)
Amblydoras (possibly monitor)
Amblydoras 'Robocop' - not see that one before
'Transparent Otocinclus' - possibly Hypoptopoma brevirostratum
Microglanis sp Peru - huge adults (they only get about 3 to 4 inches)
True Microglanis poecilus
Corydoras 'longnose sychri' - possibly C053
Cory acutus
Cory CW058
Cory pastazensis (and an orcesi mixed in!)
Panaqolus - possibly large L206
Crossoloricaria or maybe Cteniloricaria species?
Physopyxis lyra
Corydoras eques
C. pulcher (very large)
CW028 (very large)
C haraldschultzei
C. robinae
Hemiodontichthys acipenserinus
And many more!

I couldn't join the trip due to family stuff but the lads picked up a pair of pinnochio whiptails for me, cracking fish.

Those panaqolus are incredible!

you´re (almost) right, the "Arabesque" are Panaque sp. "L 453" (L 452 is a Pseudacanthicus).
The large ones are quite stunning, I have to agree!

The Microglanis are sp. Peru but they are fully grown adults. Here are some young ones my friend has had for some years. But the colours on the Pier ones are much better.

The 'Crossoloricaria' are about 9 inches TL! I have a couple of poor images of them - they dont do them justice. Will post them when I get back home. The pattern reminds me more of Cteniloricaria or Harttia but the barbels on the upper lip don't seem right for those genera?

Do you know where they came from?
I am very excited if it is really a Crossoloricaria! There are only 2 described species reaching that size. I am looking forward seeing the pictures.

Agree. They seem to have very long barbels and the head shape looks like the one Apistoloricaria have. If you have the option to compare the barbels of the fish it is pretty easy to differentiate between the two genera.

is indeed Apistoloricaria. Note the extremely extended first dorsal ray they share with Planiloricaria.

Wouldn´t dare to identify them down to species, that is Norman´s area of expertise (though they "should" be A. ommation alright).

That should be a undescribed species (from Peru), so would call it Pseudohemiodon sp. "peru".

Another loricariin from the shop. Not sure if they have any of these left but they came in as Loricaria sp Rio Momon. Any ideas?

That should be a propably undescribed Hemiloricaria species. I don't know anything comparable of this region.

A few pics of the Hemiodontichthys from Pier. Cracking sized fish. On their own in a 30 gallon tank. The first blurry pic shows one buried in the sand.
