Video of pairing up of L. triactis?

Post by MatsP »

I saw my "pair up" into a single cave. I'm pretty sure the fish entering the cave in the video.

That's awesome Mats. Sure looks like you have a pair.

I hardly ever witness that stuff let alone catch it on a video.

They've been at it all day - it started to rain during the night - not sure if that's got anything to do with it.

WOW! Judging by the size of yours, maybe I should put all back together as my smallest ones look to be about the same size as yours. Tho, I think I'm quite male heavy (3/1) - do you know what ratio you have?

I started out with 5 fish, 3 f/2m, but I've lost one - I think it was a female I lost.

Not much more activity over the last few hours - did a water change on the tank just now. We'll see if that gets them going again. Female looks VERY bulbous around the belly!

That looks VERY promising!

The male looks quite gentle - i was expecting something a little more energetic (?)

Have you tried a variety of cave sizes btw?
Lou: Every young man's fantasy is to have a three-way.
Jacob: Yeah not with another fu**!ng guy!
Lou: It's still a three-way!

Haven't tried that many different caves, no. I will build some more caves when I get my angle-grinder back.

Does the spawning-esque behaviour coincide with any spawning of the corydoras? I have noticed that when my corys spawn my L cats follow shortly after.

Not sure, the corys seem to spawn more or less every day or so, and the triactis are "at it" more or less the whole time too.

Just get a feeling you need a little bit bigger cave. Not much, but also I would put cover over it. If it goes badly, you need some where for the battered female to go. But then, I've not spawned this genus.

Yes, I have been thinking a bigger cave is the way to go. There are severaly pieces of wood and other cover for the female to hide. I just need to get my angle-grinder back from my friend - probably when I see him on Sunday - especially if I give hime a reminder.

I would keep the existing cave, but add a slightly bigger one to the side. Same orientation. Gap between caves about 5cm.
