Silurus glanis in the wild movie

Post by thijs »

Hi there,

A dutch team made a movie of a group of more than 30 Silurus glanis, some of them more than 2 meters, in the Maas river in the Netherlands.

Good to see that this species is recovering to pre-50s numbers. On the other hand: this will reduce my enhousiasm for swimming in rivers in the Netherlands (I know they are not dangerous, just the thought of such monsters you can't see).

Thijs

Cool! Majestic animals.

Hopefully, one day I will have a group of glanis like this in one of my 100,000 gal tanks... so people won't need to dive to see a sight like that in awe...

Gotta love the sound something makes at the very end. Sounds like a dinosaur from Jurassic Park. Very appropriate :)

Thanks Thijs! How is Veel meerval translated exactly?

The title would translate as 'lots of catfish in the river Maas'

Firstly, great video. Secondly, my list of catfish-related deaths only includes one documented for this sp. A boy fishing in Poland was drowned when a large specimen bit his hook, which was tied to his line, which in turn he had tied to his wrist.
